This is the best pizza you will find in Valencia. Period. I have been an expat in Valencia for 4 years now – and for most of that time I have truly struggled to find really good pizza here. I have lived in Bologna, Italy and am originally from foodie-town Copenhagen, Denmark where you can actually get very good pizza. Most places in Valencia, however, offer poor, Spanish imitations of pizza, and even the few Italian places in town don't get it quite right. Too oily. Smothered in poor-quality shredded mozzarella (if real mozzarella at all). Uneventful doughs. Bland tomato sauces. I have been there. I have suffered through it. But in the summer of 2017 my prayers were heard. An Italian pizza baker who spent 20 years in London decided to move to sunnier Valencia and opened this little place almost next door to where I live. I know the backstory because I have now eaten there six or seven times and recently had a chat with the owner. This is flawless pizza made with proper ingredients. The dough has that amazing elasticity you can only get when using real, Italian 00 flour and a proper stone oven. The mozzarella is sliced and administered with restraint. The tomato sauce is full of flavour with an added zing. All toppings are fresh and high quality. This little place – on pretty restaurant street Calle Conde Altea – serves some truly delicious pizza. Up there with the very, very best – including all the pizzerias I have eaten my way through in Italy. Get one of the outdoor tables under the canopies on the street and you are all set for a pleasurable evening. The fact that the owner speaks perfect English is a real plus in a city where very little English spoken. Oh, and they open at 7.30pm at night – not at 9 or some other crazy hour like a lot of Spanish restaurants do. Enjoy!
