We went to this new restaurant after some friends told us we couldn't miss it, and boy were they right! A definite must-try, Banibanoo is the perfect mis of original food, cozy interior and friendly staff - a great experience!
The interior decor is beautiful. Cozy, as I said, a rustic-chic mix that is relaxing and welcoming. Clean, with a large table and several smaller ones, it has many personal touches that I loved including the wall of potted plants, the carpet and the baskets hanging behind the counter.
I also appreciated, as I know many guests will, the plates of food on display so you know exactly what you are ordering. Somewhat confusing at first (the menu on the board didn't really correspond to the food that was there) the owner of the place was ready to explain everything you needed to know.
What we ordered:
we had the menu for 16,95 which included four plates, a drink and a tea or coffee.
- beetroot hummus. Suggested and then offered by the owner, it tasted of hummus but with a strong, earthy taste of the beetroot that gave it a kick. And the colour was amazing.
- kotlet. potato, meat, curcuma and saffron kind of felafel (as in: it looks like felafel but has nothing to do with it) that is then fried. This was one of our favourites of today. Crunchy, different, tasty.
- Shirin polo. rice, saffron, orange peel, carrot and pistachio. OMG. Not only a joy to look at, this was definitely the best dish we had. Sweet, surprising and so so good, the way the flavours complement each other is fantastic.
- couscous. With zucchini, mint, parsley, feta and cilantro (which I don't particularly like but I also couldn't taste in the helping we were given). Very good also, it was fresh and yummy.
- zucchini omelette. A feast for zucchini-lovers, there was very little egg, a lot of zucchini and some mint (again!). Quite good.
- rice with string beans, minced meat, saffron and bell peppers. Very good but not as exciting as the other dishes. Not sure of the name.
- roast yams (boniato). With caramelised red onions and a very acidic pomegranate sauce that I didn't really care for but my boyfriend loved. The yams were cooked to perfection.
We also ordered a lovely, lovely Iranian drink made with honey and mint which I loved and strongly recommend! Served with mint, shredded cucumber and dry rose petals it was really, really good.
The tea from the samovar was excellent and the little lemon plumcakes were good, although not made by them.
Definitely, definitely a place to go. They aren't open in the evenings but their weekday and weekend breakfasts look really good and lunch was worth the price and the trip there! Great job, can't wait to come back!!
PS it must be SO hot in Iran...all the food is refreshing and cool!
This has to be the best international restaurant in Madrid! It is singular in this category, but also stands out among all other places to eat. Each dish is abundant with delicate, yet powerful complexities of flavor. I recommend this place to anyone traveling to Madrid.
Authentic, healthy and high quality Persian food. From starters to desert everything tastes super delicious. Moreover the staff is always friendly and the restaurant has a welcoming and tasteful interior design. I'm a Persian myself and I can guarantee, that you are in very good hands here. I'm very happy to have found this place!! Thumbs up!!
