I'm still processing the events that led us to La Bodega Bohemia. After wandering our of Mercado de San Miguel, we were looking for something a bit more...stable. Seats, tables, waiters, that sort of thing. Each restaurant facing the Mercado was jam-packed, and we were ready to give up. Then we spotted La Bodega Bohemia. Passing the threshold, we fell through a hole in the space-time continuum, landing in 1975.
At first, I was a bit apprehensive. Something seemed a bit odd about the place, either the fading photos of Spanish crooners hung on the wall, or the man belting out "What's New Pussy-cat" on the keyboard. We were hungry though, and happy to let him do his thing while we waited for some paella and wine.
Between the comfort food and the wine cellar-like interior, we fell into the same sleepy mood that seemed to fill the place like air. We shared a few jokes with the waiter, bopped along to the cheesy music, ate way too much paella and just had a good time.
Weird but wonderful, it'll be a long time before I forget this place.
I wanted to go to another restaurant nearby but they didn't have a table available until 1130pm. There are many options nearby I stopped by here because it wasn't crowded. I ordered the seafood paella and a Spanish beer and the service was prompt and the food was very good.
Stumbled into this resto after unsatisfied with the paella at mercado San Miguel. Boy, I'm glad to come in and tried the paella and the trip/ callus. They are good. The callus has a little smell to it but it sure melts once it's in your mouth. The service is fast and the paella is cook to order. Not much protein in the paella though. That could use some improvement.
Good service fun place for outdoor people watching foid okay very small portion not as tasty.
I had the pleasure of stumbling upon this place my first night in Madrid (which lead to me book ending my trip to Madrid with a night cap here on my final night).
My pen pal and I really wanted to try Paella (we had drive all throughout spain and was yet to try it.. sigh). We absolutely fell in love with this cozy tavern-ous environment. The walls were all exposed brick and it reminded my of a wine cellar. There was an entertaining man named Juan behind the keyboard pumping out some Spanish tunes while we we sat tucked into a cozy corner of the restaurant.
The server, Manuel, was an absolute pleasure. He joked with the locals and offered advice to us "foreigners". I ended up going with a seafood Paella while my pen pal (being a vegetarian) was excited to try their veggie paella option. (not always an easy find in Spain sans fish). The Paella was excellent, as was the wine (from Rioja)
We kept thinking of changing locations but as the night progressed we knew we had stumbled on what can only be described as Spanish lessons. As people cleared out, there were only 3 tables remaining. Some of the locals would come and sing to Juan's tunes which was a real treat. I must say that the real treat though was when I was taught a local dance. It is a night I will never forget.
And to make things even more special. We had great conversation with the owners of the restaurant who are absolutely amazing. (when we returned a few days later we were greeted by name and with a genuine smile).
I will always look back on my trip to Spain fondly and this place will be one of the highlights.
I had such a wonderful experience at La Bodega Bohemia. The food was great, the sangria was great and the service was great. Ciri, who happens to be friends with my boyfriend's aunt, came out to say hi and even sat down to have a drink with us. She's super nice and hard working. If you're ever in Madrid stop by, have a pitcher of Sangria and say hi to Ciri.
Excellent, very good meal. Small and quaint. The half chicken not always on menu is good. The omelette is also very good. Jam just like most of these places you can't go wrong.
Found this place on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised. The seafood paella was excellent and the sangria is straight up bad ass. Get your eat on here.
