Searched all day for some gut busting Indian food, and boy did we find it. The Boo is all about Indian grub, especially the frozen dinners she snatches up at Trader Joe's for work. The Spicy Chicken Vindaloo (That I personally added even more spice too) I ate up was tasty as hell, but I gotta say, the Chicken VindaPoo that shot out the next day hurt like hell...was it worth it, uh hells yes! The Boo got her fav Trader Joe's meal, Tikka Massala, & it didn't disappoint. We ordered some white jasmine rice & garlic naan, all was good. Also had two glasses of house vino blanco. As for the bad service reviews, it's most likely a cultural thing that easy going world travelers who aren't entitled would totally get. Total price was on point at £28. Totally coming back next time we're in Madrid!

I missed Indian food after being in Italy for ten days and Spain for 5. Shapla was a solid experience and took care of the Indian food cravings. I wasn't sure what to expect but the reviews were good enough to try. There are lot of diverse choices in the Lavapiés neighborhood. We were planning on going there from the start but they definitely try to sell you to come and eat there. The restaurant was pretty empty but who knows with people in Spain what time they are eating. The vegetarian fixed meal at 8€ was a great deal for a drink, appetizer, main dish, naan and dessert. I recommend the dal, masala and curry. This definitely won't be your best Indian meal of your life but it will satisfy your cravings if you have been eating a lot of tapas. I can't compare to any other Indian restaurant in Madrid but with the low price it's a very small risk!

After seven days of tapas, we needed a break. Spanish food is great but we were craving some variety. We chose this place based on the other Yelp reviews, and were not disappointed. The samosas were pretty good and served piping hot. Next we ordered the pulao rice, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, aloo gobi, and garlic naan (I admit it isn't super experimental, but it is our standard methodology for new Indian restaurants). It was fantastic, and we had enough to take home. Easily the best meal of our time here. Well worth the euros and however many Metro stops it takes to get here! Update: we would have posted a photo of the gulab jamun, but it was so good it just disappeared

Good food and options for vegetarian. Loved the daal. And naan that was golden without being burnt. The best part was that I asked for hot sauce and they actually made it fresh. It came out looking like a curry sauce and was super tasted. Was best meal I have had in Madrid during my week vacation here. Madrid doesn't have much tasty options for vegetarians. This was delicious.

Good Indian food at very reasonable prices. Out of the many options for Indian in Lavapies I'd say this is the best (although I haven't tried all of them). The menu del dia is a great deal: a starter, main, rice or naan, drink and dessert for €8.95 or €8 for vegetarians. I usually get the chicken vindaloo, which is great: well-spiced and yummy. I love super spicy food and ask for mine "super picante," but be careful with this because they will give you what you ask for. Unless you want to be in pain by the end of your meal I would suggest going "poco picante" or just normal picante. Up to you. The samosas are also great, which I would suggest as a starter- stay away from the salad as it's pretty lame. Garlic naan is delicious; fresh, and super-garlicky. Mango lassi's are a creamy and sweet finish (especially if your mouth is still on fire from the vindaloo).

Chicken tikka masala and bee curry were amazing! Meat were marinated extremely well, and cooked tender.

Arriving into Spain I didn't know what I wanted to eat. I had a friend shoot out cuisines & we settled for Indian! Yes my first meal in Spain was an Indian meal! We sat outside & glanced at a family eating happily together during their midday siesta (how inspiring?) as well as a couple who gazed at one another! My friend & I decided that we'd order from the set menu as we'd be able to eat more (for less) & split some of our meal with one another! So we had a mini feast. Concluding that our eyes would be satisfied as well as out stomachs :) We received a complimentary Dosa with two chutney sauces (one of mint flavouring & the next a spicer tomato mix)! The mint was perfectly smooth & complimented the Dosa exceptionally so I stuck with the mint! The onion bhajis & vegetable samosas came next! I have had my fair share of bhajis yet this tandoori coated bhaji made my day!!! With no exaggeration I loved the bhaji the softness & taste! The Saag Paneer was tasty I haven't had one that has been unfavourable yet (I'm sure you will all be the first to know if & when I do) I also try to save some of the Dosa enabling me to eat it with the Saag Paneer & that in itself is a treat! The garlic naan was potent! You are able to see, taste, & smell the garlic which I did not shy from! I just ensured I had a mint close by!!! I'm a fan of curry also & the Cauliflower/vegetable Curry wasn't as spicy as I'd hope but it was smooth & pleasant to eat in the heat of Madrid without having to call the fire brigade! This was accompanied by basmati rice which is consistently good in any Indian restaurant I have visited! The white wine complimented my dishes entirely & I can say that I was full by the time we were ready to leave! As mentioned prior we were not rushed, we spend a total of (approximately) 2-2 1/2 hours here & not once did we feel rushed or as if we were an inconvenience to the staff! Thank you Shapla!!!! **Note that in Spain they offer a "Summer Red Wine" also known as Tinto de Verano. This is simply a red wine with a carbonated soda added to it. It's extremely common for locals & some compare it to Sangria.

Good place for Indian food in Madrid. The naan with sauce is tasty and service was fast. Mango lassi at the end seals the deal

I've eaten at several Indian Restaurants in Madrid, having worked here for 3 years, and along this street you will find the mother load of indian restaurants-- After trying 4 different Indian places, this one stood out as one of the best. I am not a native of India, but having lived in the Bay area, and L.A. I thought the food here was quite good. I ordered the prawn Phal, and it's usually unsupportably hot. Here I found it Very Hot, but with an abundance of flavor. There are two Shapla's both owned by the same people, so I"m guessing the food at either is of the same quality. Avoid the restaurant next door (Sonali). the food there is Horrible.

Very very cheap and tasty Indian food. Definitely not the fanciest or most well decorated Indian restaurant but the food is tasty and you get a bang for your buck. I am a big fan of the aloo gobi and their garlic naan. The have a great option for the menu del día where u can get an appetizer, entre, bread and a dessert for less than 10 euro. My only wishes are that the food was a bit more spicy and that the vegetarian samosas had a bit more flavor to than. But I enjoyed my meal overall

Super cheap and excellent indian food. I usually go with the dal tarka and it's delicious every time. Staff is so friendly and remembered my friends and I after only one visit!

Calle Lavapies is packed with Indian restaurants, most of them in the same prize range (cheap!) but of very different quality. I have tried several and Shapla is absolutely the best!! The service is very friendly. The room is not too charming (as in most Indian resraurants), so take a table outside if the weather allows for it. The food is lovely! Especially the butter chicken which is by far the best I have tried in Madrid - well, all of Spain actually! You simply must try it, sooo delicious! As said, its super cheap and excellent value for money! My warm recommendations to Shapla.

The food was very good. The restaurant was close to the train and very easy to walk to. The waiters gave to time to eat and enjoy the food. The food is wonderfully priced, we received a full meal with drinks for less than 25 dollars.

Indian food in Madrid? Yes, why not?! We had lamb vindaloo and a mushroom dish, which were excellent! The lamb was better than most we've had in the US. Excellent value too, with their combo deals.
