Hänsel is this cute little cafe on the streets of Barcelona, serving up some great essential sandwiches, pastries, pasta, juices, and coffee. My friends and I stopped by Hänsel on the last morning of our stay in Barcelona and it was a great experience all around.
I got the Bikini sandwich (a ham and melted cheese sandwich) and asked if I was able to add some spinach. While they usually don't include spinach in the sandwich, they said they can add it for me with no extra charge! Also ordered an Americano, which came in a cute espresso mug and was great.
Service wise, our waiter was fantastic. He could tell that we were tourists (obviously, from our huge travel backpacks) and recommended several menu items for us. The food came out quick and all the sandwiches were warm and toasty.
I'd recommend Hänsel to anyone looking for a high quality, yet affordable and quick place to eat for breakfast/lunch/brunch! It's setup like your typical cafe, with many small tables and several wall outlets (I think), so it's definitely a relaxing environment away from the bustling city streets.
French pastries are done in perfection. The pastries with filo dough are crunchy and very tasty. We tried the 4 cheese Quiche, was so good that melts in your mouth. The "cafe con leche" is well done. If you like sweet orange juice this is the place...exquisito!!!
The owner was very patient explaining the different pastries and food options and the server was very attentive. The ambience is very inviting, with a clear wood decore, clean and nice.
Have been eating breakfast here the last two days. Half of the prize of our hotel breakfast. Nice to be able to order scrambled eggs in addition to the usual Barcelona breakfast offerings. Fast, inexpensive, and great for a quick American breakfast. Try to crepes with jam !
I believe we were helped by the owner. Very kind and accommodating.
Okay... the eggs were superb. Scrambled eggs with cheese, mushrooms and ham. I asked my wife is this what fresh eggs taste like? If it is, I want fresh eggs every morning.
My first espresso in Spain.
More to come.
A tiny little hidden gem in Eixample. I went every morning for scrambled eggs and coffee. The staff were so pleasant and tolerant of my minimal Spanish! I loved starting my day there every morning.
Went to this cafe for breakfast on my last day in Barcelona and had a very enjoyable experience. Food was really good.
Between the two of us we had the following:
1. a sandwich with iberico ham - the ham is of very good quality... pure acorn fed
2. a ham and cheese bikini sandwich on coca bread - I love ham and cheese toast but this was really good. The coca bread had a hint of sweetness that complemented the saltiness from the ham and cheese. It was nice and crispy on the outside, and oozing with oily goodness from the melted cheese.
3. a sandwich with butifarra - I wanted to try butifarra, which is a Catalan-style sausage. They used the white one here. I liked this too!
4. Freshly squeezed OJ - nothing much to add to this ... it is what it is!
On top of that... I liked the old songs playing in the background too... definitely added to the positive experience. Would definitely recommend this place!
Very clean and simple!! Menu for lunch was kinda limited but they have great focaccia and salads! Light food with small portions which is healthy and doesn't leave you over stuffed!
My wife and I stopped in for a quick breakfast before visiting La Pedrera. The eatery is conveniently located north of Placa de Catalunya in the lower Eixample. We were greeted warmly by the owner upon entering and he was kind enough to personally review the menu with us My wife had scrambled eggs with toast and I had a bikini sandwich (ham and cheese). these were great. We shared a chocolate croissant, which was delicious. Prices were very reasonable considering the location and quality of the food. To give you some idea of what an honest business this is, they even provided us with free tap water (Gasp!)
"Hansel...he's so hot right now."
...and that's the first thing that came to mind when coming across this place.
Mugatu reference aside, it's a great place to take a break after strolling Passeig De Gracia. Staff is super welcoming, which is much more than I can say for several other shops and cafes in the area. They make all that juices and the two that we tried (kiwi melon and mango pear orange) were refreshing, delicious and thick (i.e. not watered down). Spent under 20 Euro for a breakfast sandwich, an egg scramble, a croissant and two juices.
I came across this cafe while looking for a different one. I'm glad I did.
I finally got to have some pan de coca. It was sweet and delicious. Light enough to to perfectly with my cafe con leche. I will probably try something else next time I'm here. I've heard the food is great. In the meantime, though, I'm satisfied.
I wanted to give this place 5 stars on service alone. The people here are so friendly! I really like the atmosphere and there were plenty of people when I went (around 6:30 on a Thursday.)
I will definitely be back and I can't wait to try their actual menu. Even still, for a coffee and a pastry this place is swell.
Cava- crisp and light. We were seated promptly. It was was very busy due to dia de los libros and today san Jordy another Unesco world recognized. Any way it was very busy and crowded in the city. Sellers of roses all over the streets. We ducked into this place and it was great bustling with activity but everyone was pleasant. They brought out little toasted bread. We ordered cold quinoa salad with fresh tomatoes and avocado. Very good not heavy at all! 2nd entree was clam with spaghetti very delicate flavor. It was hot and very good. A slight lemon flavor with spices. Once again very light. My only complaint was how long it took to get our check and pay. Which seems to be the case just about anywhere we go in Spain. Hence the 4 stars. Don't they know we are tourists and have a limited time?! ;-)
Best breakfast that I've had while in Barcelona. Thanks to Juan the owner, for a very relaxed experience and for answering all of my food questions with such patience & grace.
Looks like practically any of the cafes in that area selling croissant and coffee, but this one has a real menu with lots of interesting stuff. Many delicious stuff like potatoes/zucchini/eggplant egg sandwich, strawberry/banana waffle, crepes and waffles. It has a few more healthy choices as well.
Their drinks are very good. Really enjoyed the cappuccino and the latte. Lactose-free milk is available. They also have a few fresh juices to choose from (mango, pineapple, etc.) The mineral water they serve (Evian, glass bottle) is at the perfect temperature. It is extremely affordable, and the value for money spent is outstanding. The service is outstanding too--naturally.
Nice and cozy place for breakfast. Welcoming and friendly staff. Service was prompt and food served quickly. Food was ok, they have other options for breakfast besides pastries which is great for visitors. Even though you might love pastries, there is a time when you need regular breakfast like scrambled eggs.
Simple, easy, quick. We went around 1130a. After all the heavy European food we wanted something mellow. We had the fruit with yogurt and a croissant with cappuccino--not exactly an American style brunch, but perfect.
Amazing place for breakfast. Cafe con leche some of best I've ever had and we're from Miami. The scrambled eggs w spinach tomato and cheese was just fantastic and the sandwich w jamon iberico was superb. Hey a glass of fresh squeezed oj too.
Cute breakfast spot in the Passeig de Gracia area, and very close to the Hilton Alexandra Hotel. My boyfriend and I split a croissant here and dined on egg scrambles, which were very fresh and tasty. I was attracted to this spot for the juices and they did not disappoint. I had the mango pear orange juice and liked it so much I bought another bottle to go. The only caveat was that they forgot to bring our coffees and needed a reminder, but overall I had a very pleasant experience here and would recommend for a quick breakfast.
very good and delicious I would recommend the potato egg it is the best. I hope that you would come here and taste those delicious breakfast they have and the prices are just right for a person to pay .the place is quite and music is making you calm - hope you try it
We walked over to this restaurant from Casa Milà and had a delightful late lunch. The salads were amazing, and the pasta revived the kids for a couple more hours of walking.

Sehr guter Kaffee, sehr nette Bedienung.

Si algun día vuelvo a barcelona definitivamente volvere s desayunar allí
