So you like Donuts do you? Well then, stop what you're doing. Stop reading this review right now and go to La Donuteria. Do it right now! Right. Now.
My wife and I went here because we wanted something sweet and we didn't want another pastry. We wanted something that might be legendary... thankfully we found this place. We ordered two donuts to start and they were amazing! The green caramel apple and cream of milk chocolate with coconut.I don't even like green apples, but I loved this donut! Then I had half of the cream kind and I just couldn't take it any longer. These donuts were so good that we came back another day. Sadly, someone must be talking about this place because we only had two options and they were both delicious too! Come here for your donut fix, but be warned you'll be forever changed by the experience!
Pro tip - they only take cash. There are a couple ATMs around so make sure that you have the cash before you show up so someone else doesn't take your donut. They also have coffee and other drinks too.
Come here for a yummy sweet morning treat! I so appreciate this shop's artisanal approach to donuts. On the morning I came, the display case had a brilliant selection of elegantly decorated donuts:
- Maracuyá con nibs (passion fruit with cocoa nibs)
- Frutos rojos con cacao (red fruits with beet and cocoa)
- Albaricoque y yogur con muesli (apricot and yogurt with muesli)
- Dulce de leche con almendras y sal Maldon (dulce de leche with almonds and Maldon salt)
- Vainilla de vaina de Tahiti (Tahitian vanilla bean)
- Fresa-pistachio (strawberry pistachio)
- Mango con matcha (mango with matcha)
- Arándano con migas de nuez pecan (blueberry with pecan and walnut crumble)
- Crema de chocolate blanco con manzana verde (white chocolate cream with green apple)
- Crema de chocolate con leche y frambuesa (chocolate cream with milk and raspberry)
They also serve coffee to complement their delicious donuts. I thoroughly enjoyed my dulce de leche donut, which had a lightly sweet cake base with a tight crumb topped with a thick glaze and a finishing sprinkle of Maldon salt. Deliciós~
Best donut shop in Spain.
Must go. Must buy as many flavors to get a sense of just how varied and delicious they are.
Could you open a La Donuteria in NYC?
Chewy, doughy, I loved the texture of the donuts. The bite of a cake donut with the slight chew of a yeast donut, but still fluffier than a cake donut--a perfect balance. And the various flavors! You could smell the fresh fruit and ingredients before each bite, making it that much more of an intoxicating experience. I wish I could have tried them all while I was in Barcelona. Not only tasty, but each ring of glazed decadence a piece of artwork, they were so beautifully presented. Impressive creativity in flavors. So goooooood.
The donuts here are huge and fantastic. Although I wanted to try them all, I can't imagine having more than one. Each donut is the size of a large dessert dish. Instead, I had just one of the Mango-Passionfruit (3€).
Since La Donuteria is next door to Cafe Cometa and we ate there twice, I came over for a donut afterwards. However, on the second visit I wasn't in the mood for any of the flavors of the day. There was one I thought I might like but it got snatched up by the customer before me. Oh well, until I am in Barcelona again will just have to savor the memory of the most delicious donut I have ever had in my life. Thank goodness for photos. :D
Take the metro to Poble Sec station and walk one block North. A few blocks South are a few dozen Pinxto restaurants if you'd like to grab some food before your donut. (Assuming Cafe Cometa next door is packed.)
A great spot for donuts in Barcelona!
We were here on recommendation and were not disappointed. It was incredibly hard picking from the large variety of interesting flavors, but this was aided by our late arrival which meant a lot of the day's specials had sold out (come here early!). We settled on a raspberry cake donut with chocolate shavings on top, as well as a strawberry-rose glazed donut filled with vanilla custard. Both donuts were very large.
The raspberry glazed donut was chewy and yeasty, and the tart-sweet raspberry glaze had an incredibly inviting aroma. If I had any qualms, it would be that the thickness of the donut didn't mean enough glaze to go with it- but that's a personal preference, since the donuts themselves were very tasty.
The strawberry-rose glazed custard donut was my favorite of the two. It also had an incredibly inviting strawberry aroma and the fresh yeasty smell that indicates a good donut, with the added plus of a generous amount of smooth, rich vanilla custard inside. The custard+glaze to donut ratio was just right.
Overall, we would love to visit La Donuteria again, and try and sample all of the flavors available!
The donuts are quite simply off the hook.
And I say this coming from San Francisco where we have Dynamo Donuts and have also had Portland's Voodoo Donuts. I think the gourmet donuts here were more flavorful. And much larger in size!
As I write this i SO wish I could have another, but I've left the country. (For now!)
That said, they just have a couple of dark wooden blocks for you to sit on inside. So, it's not a place to hang out. We ate our donuts and then went next door to Cometa and sat outside having excellent coffee.
A few friends and I stumbled across this gem because we wanted coffee. Little did I know that just one single doughnut would make me the man I am today.
I think that good doughnuts make good people. If you have a moment, please let me tell you about this simple pastry, and how you, too, can someday feel.
An ocean of mango glaze envelops what would be enough doughnut for two if it weren't so damned addicting. It really is incredible. The sweetness of the glaze is cut magnificently by a fruity tartness. The dough is firm enough to sustain the sizable doughnut and flaky enough to feel light and airy. It's truly an experience.
These donuts are big, but I'll bet you won't want to share. The mango glaze is incredible from first bite to last. A quarter of the way through the experience, a wave of chocolate cream surrounds you. Really. It surrounds you. It holds you hostage. You have made a deal with the doughnut and the only way out is through. Messy as it may be, you have made a commitment.
Your friends may have done the same. You will politely offer bites of your doughnuts to each other and all decline. In this moment, all that matters is what is in your hands. You couldn't possibly cheat on something that has brought you so much joy.
Meanwhile, you cannot help but grab extra napkins from the counter as you realize what you've gotten yourself into. Everyone else is drowning in indulgence and you can only save yourself. So you eat on. Boats against the current. Borne ceaselessly back into the decadence.
This is one of those happy experiences where everyone around you knows exactly how you feel. They, too, are in the middle of something special. So you sip your coffee, which cuts the chocolate cream perfectly. You sit on the long wooden bench opposite the counter. You get lost in the moment until you reach a bittersweet end.
Yes, the doughnut is gone, but the days ahead smell like roses. If you can remove yourself from the nostalgia, new flavors beckon. I highly recommend you come here when you're looking to indulge. I only ask that you go once. You will choose to go back all on your own.
The donuts are unbelievable! I still talk about the ones that I have had from there a year later! They are truly masterpieces and live up the standards that España has for food! I would love if they delivered to Seattle, USA!
Great donuts with incredible variety. The hardest thing about Donutería is having to choose between all of their creative and exciting flavored. From rose and yogurt to Apple and ginger, they have many exciting combinations of flavors! The donuts are big but they don't feel to heavy or too greasy. I've had better, but for Barcelona these do a good job!
I came to this place 2 days in a row...probably because I was craving donuts. However, the donuts were very good. I would suggest to go earlier in the day as the selection things out as it gets later in the day. I think the maracuya with vanilla and peach cream was absolutely divine! As was the chocolate cream filled donut. However, be prepared to pay premium prices- almost 10€ for 2 donuts and 2 coffees. Being from the USA, that is super expensive for just a donut and coffee. I come from a land where that price could buy you a dozen really good donuts and 4 coffees. I can't imagine paying up to 36€ for a dozen donuts. UGH!
Great find of traditional American donut in San Antoni, everything is all made in front of you and from scratch, I've seen some donuts in the city but they were mass produce and not the same
Forget about Dunkin' Donuts and get a huge, artisan, delicious Donut here. Great choices of salty and sweety pieces of delight.
If you've ever been to Dough Donuts, this is the same thing just way better.
